The Ontario B.A.S.S. Nation had another successful year at the 2020 Spring Fishing and Boat Show. This annual event is hosted by the Canadian Outdoor Sport Shows at Mississauga’s International Centre.
This year the event kicked off with the CSFL Industry Breakfast. This event is a great annual event recognizing and paying tribute to some of the biggest names in the Canadian Angling world. This year there were three awards presented at the Industry Breakfast.
1.Canadian Angler Hall of Fame Inductee: Cam Thomson
2. Rick Amsbury Award: Todd Langley
3. CSFL Conservation Award: Aurora Bassmasters
Canadian Angler Hall of Fame Member and Ontario BASS Nation Member, Wil Wegman, accepted the CSFL Conservation Project of the Year Award for the Aurora Bassmasters. The Aurora Bassmasters worked on a project along the Talbot River, a major tributary to the fabled Lake Simcoe in central Ontario. The Aurora Bassmasters conducted a habitat improvement project with other groups to eradicate Water Soldier from the Talbot River. This invasive plant species has been spreading in Ontario waters and the Aurora Bassmasters worked tirelessly to control this spread in the Talbot River.
During the Canadian Bass Pro Academy, Jason Barnucz (OBN Conservation Director) gave a presentation to attendees about the 2019 Live Release Study he worked on with OBN Members. Jason will be making the same presentation at the upcoming 50th Bassmaster Classic at the 2020 B.A.S.S. Conservation Summit.
A highlight of the 2020 SFBS was meeting BASS Pro, Brian Latimer, and MLF Pro, David Dudley. These two professional anglers gave some great seminars all through the weekend. Including the Bass Pro Academy on the Monday of the show. These two Pros took time to meet with fans all weekend including many young fans. Picture above is a group of the York Bassmasters who spent time talking angling with Brian and David.
